I DON'T WANT IT
"I Don't Want It" explores one of the greatest contradictions of the human heart—the desire to run from the very thing we want the most.
We've all experienced someone whose presence completely disarms us. You know getting closer could change everything. You know your emotions are about to take over. Part of you wants to walk away... and another part can't stop moving toward them.
That's the tension I wanted to capture in this song.
Using the metaphor of addiction, "I Don't Want It" tells the story of someone who recognizes just how powerful love can be. The chorus—"Your love is a drug, and I won't escape it"—isn't about substance dependency; it's about the overwhelming feeling of becoming emotionally consumed by another person.
Throughout the song, the narrator fights an internal battle. He builds walls, tries to resist, and convinces himself he should stay away because he knows once he lets his guard down, there's no turning back. Every glance, every smile, every whispered word pulls him deeper into something he knows will change his life forever.
One of my favorite moments is the bridge, where the vulnerability becomes undeniable. He's not afraid of rejection—he's afraid of how deeply he'll fall if he lets himself experience the love that's standing right in front of him.
Musically, I wanted "I Don't Want It" to blend soul, funk, and R&B into a groove that mirrors that emotional push and pull. The rhythm keeps moving forward while the lyrics reveal someone trying desperately to hold himself back. That contrast is what gives the song its emotional energy.
At its core, "I Don't Want It" isn't really about resisting love.
It's about recognizing the incredible power love has to transform us.
Because sometimes the greatest risk isn't falling...
It's realizing you never want to get back up.

[Chorus]
I don't want it
And no I don't need it
If I taste it once
I'll never beat it
I don't want it
And no I can't take it
Cause your love is a drug
And I won't escape it
(Verse 1)
Your touch is velvet
It burns my skin
The way you smile
I can't begin
To stop the fire
It pulls me in
I see the fall before the flight
Your love's too strong, it cuts like light
[Chorus]
I don't want it
And no I don't need it
If I taste it once
I'll never beat it
I don't want it
And no I can't take it
Cause your love is a drug
And I won't escape it
[Verse 2]
Your eyes are oceans
I'm drowning slow
Each word you whisper
I lose control
I build my walls
But you still know
The higher I climb, the harder I'll break
I see the risk I'm scared to take
[Chorus]
I don't want it
And no I don't need it
If I taste it once
I'll never beat it
I don't want it
And no I can't take it
Cause your love is a drug
And I won't escape it
[Bridge]
I just can't get too close to you cause I know what you do
It makes me break out in sweats every time I smell your perfume
I've never tasted your lips cause I'm just afraid to
Become lost and addicted to the things that you do
[Chorus]
So I don't want it (no matter what you say)
And no I don't need it (I just don't need it girl)
If I taste it once (all I've got)
I'll never be rid (don't want you messing up my world)
I don't want it (no matter what you say)
And no I can't take it (I just can't take it)
Cause your love is a drug (can't get enough)
And I won't escape it (I won't escape it)
